The Cohen family were one of the first settlers of the town of Aspen, Colorado. Elias Cohen moved there by 1891 and managed David Hyman's mining properties.

"Dr. Edmond Cohen recounts the life of his grandfather, Samuel Cohen, of Fairplay, Colo. Sam was a Jewish immigrant who had arrived in the United States from England in 1870, originally migrating from Eastern Europe in 1867.
