Biography
Anna Kaplan and her husband Nathan immigrated from Bialystock, Poland around 1915 and settled in the small town of Rocky Ford, CO. The Kaplans were the only Jewish family in the small town of Rocky Ford, CO. Nathan was a small business owner, running two shops in Rocky Ford and Lamar, CO. Anna regularly imported kosher meat from a relative who ran a kosher butcher shop in Denver. Anna and Nathan raised their two daughters, Elsa Kaplan Tobin (21 April 1913 - 15 October 1991) and Pearl Kaplan Herman (22 November 1914 - 30 August 2006), in Rocky Ford. In the 1940's, Nathan sold his store to his brother-in-law Charlie Wanger, and Nathan and Anna Kaplan retired and moved to Denver.
