Weinshienk, Zita L.
Biography
Judge Zita Leeson Weinshienk was born in 1933 and died in 2022. She attended the University of Colorado from 1952 to 1954, where she met her first husband Hubert Troy Weinshienk. Zita Leeson and Hubert Winshienk both attended Harvard Law School and married during their second year. Zita Winshienk graduated from Harvard Law School, cum laude, in 1958. She ranked first on the Colorado Bar exam. In 1964, Zita became Denver's first female jurist, when she was appointed as a Municipal Judge. In 1965, Zita became a Denver County Court Judge where she served until 1972 when she was appointed as a District Court Judge. In 1979, Zita Weinshienk became the first woman to serve as a United States District Court Judge in the state of Colorado when she was appointed by President Carter.
