Abstract
Rachel Noel, a Colorado educator, was born in Hampton, Virginia and moved to Colorado when her husband started his medical practice. They chose Colorado because Noel's husband could practice medicine in an integrated hospital. Reflects on segregation and discrimination against African Americans in health, housing, education, and daily life in Colorado in the 1950s. Discusses her experience as a committee member appointed by the board of education to look at inequality in Denver Public Schools and later working on the Denver Public Schools board of education. Discusses accomplishments and achievements of Black men and women in Colorado and the future of equality and opportunity.
