Elsner Mansion, 1928-1995
Abstract
The file contains newspaper clippings about the Elsner mansion on Denver's Governors Row. The home had been built by wealthy Jewish merchant Wolfe Londoner The Elsners gave lavish dinners for the cream of Denver society, politicians, celebrities, artists and musicians. The Elsners were early patrons of the arts and many of the guests were from the theater. Edward Elsner moved to New York and became an actor and playwright After John Elsner's death, there was litigation over the estate between Lena, Rosalinde, and Edward. The art and extensive Victorian furnishings had to be sold and the home was turned into a parking lot.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains copies of records of circumcisions performed by Dr. John Elsner in the Rocky Mountain region; biographical information, papers and articles, including an article by Marjorie Hornbein and “Reminiscences,” a speech delivered by Dr. John Elsner at National Jewish Hospital in 1908. It also contains news clippings on the family and the fate of the Elsner mansion on Governors Row in Denver.
