Abstract

This box contains a scrapbook documenting the early life of Florence Lamont Hinman and the early history of the Lamont School of Music (which she founded in 1924 and was the director of until 1953). The scrapbook (14 x 12.5 x 1.5) is red and features handmade paper roses on the front cover and inside cover. Some of the pictures included in the scrapbook show the school itself, the Lamont Playhouse, the studios, the Fraternity Club Room, and the girl's dormitory. Also displayed in the scrapbook are photos of some early performances, Lamont singers, the choir, the radio broadcast KOA, the piano ensemble, dance performers, and the Lamont Opera Club. There are also some photos of the faculty and staff as well as newspaper clippings about honors bestowed upon Florence Lamont Hinman and the success of the school. Also contained in the scrapbook are programs for the Denver Civic Symphony Orchestra and the Lamont Singers (1936-1937).

This scrapbook was presented in 2016 by the Sigma Alpha Iota Denver Alumnae Chapter and the Sigma Upsilon Chapter of the University of Denver. On the inside of the back cover, the scrapbook states that it was compiled by Ardice Garrels and Cynthia Garrels of the Denver Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota in the fall of 2016.
