Box 11: Devotion, 2009-2012
Abstract
This box contains process materials and materials as exhibited for the art project “Devotion” and materials that were used to exhibit the project. Devotion was in process from 2009-2010 and was then exhibited at Regis in 2010 and Redline in 2012.
In Devotion, rags were worked on or used by people in the Regis community. These people would do some “mothering” and then the remnants of the “mothering’ (tears, makeup, blood, etc.) would be set with heat in the “mangle” machine into the fabric. The “mangle” machine was an Ironrite Automatic Ironer. The rags were returned by participants with notes on what the “mothering” was and then they were hung with the fabric.
Items in this box include photos of the exhibition at Regis, process journals and notes, Regis art installation information, Artist Statement, Ironrite Automatic Ironer (“Mangle” machine) manual and information, stamps for the rags, and completed rag survey/info sheets.
