Abstract

Box contains process materials for the art project “I Was Mistaken for a Noun" and materials that were used to exhibit the project. I Was Mistaken for a Noun was displayed at Edge Gallery in 2009 and was then displayed at the Center for Visual Art (Santa Fe).

The art installation included wax paper boxes on stands with different verb tenses printed on them (ex: shall have done, will have been, were to have been, etc). There were also sheets of typing paper that were piunched to be in the shape and design of a Polaroid. These sheets had different verbs typed on them (ex: running, planning, carrying, searching, gazing, etc.). During the installation, these sheets of paper would be fed out from a feeder on the ceiling, a fan would whirl them around in the air, and they would fall onto the floor or into the wax boxes.

Items in this box include photos of the exhibition, verb lists preparation, verb paper templates, completed verb papers , planning notes, schedules, promo prep, an artist statement, tests of the verb tense box bottoms, wax paper tests of the verb tense boxes sides, and “photo corners” paper cutting guides and a rubber stamp.
