 Sub-Series
Identifier: U113.02.04

Abstract

This subseries consists of boxes that contain materials related to various properties that the University of Denver sold to third parties, had contracts with outside entities about, or were gifted by donors.

Major properties and entities that DU had a relationship with that are included in this series are: the Eleanor Roosevelt Institute, South High Street, Pratt Management Company, East Range (also known as the Lowry Air Force Base), University Building, Phipps Mansion, Grand River Ranch, Johnson and Wales University, the Titan Missile Site, Middle Ranches (gift from Daniel Ritchie), and Rancho Cielo (gift from Daniel Ritchie). There are also many other smaller properties, their names and addresses are provided in the abstract of the box where they are contained along with what the documents in the box pertain to (i.e. property sale, appraisal, property gift, and more).

The Middle Ranches properties are of note because they consist of a 20,000 acre property estimated to be worth $15 million that was donated to the University of Denver by Chancellor Daniel Ritchie in 1994. Middle Ranches property was gifted to DU so that it could be divided and sold piecemeal to various buyers in order to generate funds for DU. Some of the small ranch sales that came from this property donation include Haworth Ranch, Hinman Ranch, Middle Ranches Parcel 10, Peak Ranch, and the Woods Ranch Property.
