Testimony of J.B. Abbott, 1856 December 9
Abstract
The document contains a transcribed manuscript of a testimony by J.B. Abbott given about his journey to come to live in Kansas and the consequences that followed a murder of a person who lived nearby. Abbott went to Kansas for the Kansas and Nebraska Bill with a company numbering about 140. He claimed some land of his own south of Lawrence. When the murder occurred in 1955, him and some others began investigating. The townspeople began selling out stores of their guns in fear of another murder happening. The issue became one of liberty and slavery. Abbott and his men were attacked by some men on horse. The remainder of the manuscript is missing.
