From the Collection: The collection contains materials intentionally assembled by the Ira M. and Peryle Hayutin Beck Memorial Archives of Jews in the Rocky Mountain region. The bulk of the photographs are from or related to various towns in Colorado, but the collection also contains photographs from other states in the western United States.

In 1910 Jesse Shwayder opened a small luggage factory and with his brothers, Mark, Maurice, Benjamin, and Solomon, turned it into one of the largest luggage producers in America, the Samsonite Corporation. Leaders in Denver philanthropy, the Shwayder family took an especially active role in Rose Hospital, the University of Denver, the Denver Art Museum, the National Jewish Hospital, Temple Emanuel, and many other organizations.
