Abstract

Store owner Sam Marchick, left, his son in center, and an unidentified man and woman at right, in Marchick's Cheyenne, Wyoming store. A sign in back of large trunk reads "Shoe sale - pick em out." Another sign that is displayed between the two Marchick men, states, "Sale on pants." Samuel Marchick and his wife, Lillie (Rice), were born in Ostrovo, Poland. Sam Marchick came to the United States in 1904 and sent for his wife and children: Joseph, Benjamin, Jacob, Mary, Arline and Faye. The family operated a new and used clothing store and a pawn shop, and lived above the store.

From the Collection:

The collection contains materials intentionally assembled by the Ira M. and Peryle Hayutin Beck Memorial Archives of Jews in the Rocky Mountain region. The bulk of the photographs are from or related to various towns in Colorado, but the collection also contains photographs from other states in the western United States and other countries. There are some 19th century photograph types represented in the collection, including albumen prints, daguerrotypes, tintypes, post cards, colorized prints, cabinet cards, and cartes-de-visite.
