The Denver Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) hosted the picnic to honor Sadie American who was touring the country to help form new sections of NCJW. The Denver Section was founded in 1893, the same year the national organization was established to promote Jewish education, philanthropy, and social reform. The early group of women worked to offer aid and to Americanize East European immigrants at the turn of the 20th Century.
