Alan Gilbert Papers
Abstract
Alan Gilbert (1944-) is John Evans Professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. His research examines democracy and social justice (particularly nonviolent social justice movements of the modern era), with particular emphasis on minority communities and those whose voices have been undervalued and historically marginalized. Much of his work is based in Marxist theory. Professor Gilbert has published widely on his research topics, with monographs including Black Patriots and Loyalists: Fighting for Emancipation in the War of Independence (University of Chicago, 2012), and was one of the authors of the UNiversity of Denver's report on John Evans and the Sand Creek Massacre. Professor Gilbert began teaching at DU as an assistant professor in 1975, and became John Evans Professor in 2001.
