Abstract Author Ruth Suckow (1892-1960) was born in Iowa and moved to Denver, Colorado to join her sister Emma (.d 1923) who had moved to Denver to seek relief from tuberculosis. Suckow graduated from the University of Denver, earning a B.A. degree (English) in 1917 and an M.A. in 1918. Abstract Anthropologist Ruth Murray Underhill served as Supervisor of Indian Education with the U.S. Indian Service from 1942-1948 and was professor of Anthropology at the University of Denver from 1948-1952. She was born in Ossining, New York on August 22, 1883 and graduated from Vassar College in 1905 with a B.A. in comparative literature. Abstract As did most Jewish families, Paul Michael and his wife Bessie Radetsky Saliman settled on the west side near Sloan's Lake in 1886. Paul Michael pushed a cart through the alleys of Denver collecting rags and junk to re-sell, finally developing a business of collecting, cleaning and recycling milk bottles for local dairies. Saliman's Bar and Grill Records

Abstract

Saliman's Bar and Grill was opened by Samuel Saliman near the beginning of the 1920s and was in operation for almost a century under various names. The restaurant was located at 1920 Larimer Street, Denver, CO. and later at other locations in downtown Denver. The collection contains a menu from C and E Saliman's Grill and a silver plated teaspoon from Saliman's. There are two photos of the restaurant in B063 (Beck Photograph Collection).

Abstract Sam Berman was born August 9, 1911. His father, Joseph Berman, died when he was two, and shortly thereafter Sam Berman was placed in the Denver Sheltering Home. He spent the longest amount of time at the Denver Sheltering Home of any of its residents. The Home, in consideration of Berman’s long service there, sponsored his education at the University of Denver (DU) as an undergraduate and later as a law student. Abstract Sam Stoole was born in Denver in 1910 and graduated from the University of Colorado School of Engineering. He worked as an engineer for the State of Colorado for seven years. In the early 1940s, he began commercial construction and founded the Sam Stoole Construction Company. Buildings built by Sam included Denver Public schools, Neusteter's Department store in downtown Denver, and several Holiday Inns. He taught wrestling to underprivileged teenagers at JCC in the 1940s.
