Fort Collins , 1882-1981
In 1905, Sam Meyer opened a department store in Ft. Collins; another early resident was junk dealer Charles Reingold. The Jewish population of Fort Collins was approximately 75 in 1927 and 1937, with many leaving during the Depression. An early congregation, B'nai Zion, failed. The community revived in the 1960s, and Har Shalom synagogue was built in the 1970s. A Hillel chapter was formed on the Colorado State University campus.
