Abstract Joseph Scher was born in Latvia in 1884 and died in Denver in 1969. He emigrated in 1904 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BA degree in Sociology and Economics in 1913. Joseph Scher joined the Immigration Service in 1918 and was an investigator for 32 years. He married Rose Saperstein of Pennsylvania that same year. A framed oil painting of Jewish Rabbi, most likely Rabbi David Radinsky, identified on reverse as "Grandfather Radinsky by Jaq (?)." The script on the reverse isn't very clear but assuming it is the same artist as another identified portrait done by "Jaq" in the 1950s. Rabbi in protrait sits in floral upholstered chair next to small round table with maroon tablecoloth holding an open book in the table.
