Abstract

The Beck Archives Photograph Collection contains photographs, negatives, and other materials which reflect the rich, varied, and vibrant Jewish experience in the Rocky Mountain region, with a special emphasis on Colorado. It also contains some photographs from other states and countries.

Benjamin Hoffman was killed in 1943 in the U.S. Navy. His brother Harry received permission to erect a headstone in Golden Hill Cemetery in 1949. Collection contains one framed gold star certificate related to Ben Hoffman from 1945.

Abstract Emanuel Saltiel was born in Bath, England in 1844 and emigrated to the United States, joining the Confederate army in 1864. In 1866 Saltiel, now a member of the Union army under the name Joseph Isaacs, was court-martialed for treason. Framed gold star certificate for Ben Hoffman given by the B'nai B'rith Denver Lodge, Number One after the death of Ben Hoffman in World War II. Max Goldberg as President of the Denver Lodge signed the certificate. The certificate contains a passage from the Gettysburg address.

Harry Kadish (1818-1926) was a Russian immigrant who moved to Denver in 1880. He died at the age of 108. Was Russian Cavalry Commander in the Crimean War with Turkey in the 1850s.

Abstract Henry Frank (1836-1916) was born in Obbach, Bavaria, to Mayer and Caroline Frank. He left for the United States at the age of eighteen in 1854 and began as a peddler in New York. He moved to Cincinnatti to briefly work as an apprentice in the textile buisiness before moving to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1856 to work in a retail clothing business. Abstract This is a letter from Ernest Loeb to his parents Bella and Emil Loeb, written from Germany while Ernest was still stationed there in WWII.
