Abstract

This workshop will discuss how to fight SPLAPPs (lawsuits brought to intimidate citizens from exercising their First Amendment Rights), legally and politically. This will include political organization, legal defense, getting insurance coverage, sanctions and SLAPP-backs, and legislative protections.

Abstract This article is about claims manipulation and the influence of context on the careers and outcomes of disputes. We exlore eleven cases in which civil tort action was used when citizen opponents petitioned the government (lawsuits called SLAPPs or "strategic lawsuits against public participatiom"). Abstract This is a study of attempts to use civil tort action to stifle political ezpression. These lawsuits claim injury resultin from citizen efforts to influence the government or sway voters on an issue of public significance. We call these cases "strategic lawsuits against public participation" (SLAPPs).
