Scope Note: Lake formed as the result of an underground aquifer being tapped when a well was being dug by Thomas Sloan in 1861 for a farm. Park still in existence today at 17th and Sheridan Blvd. From 1891-1908 Manhattan Beach Amusement Park operated on the shores of Sloan's Lake.
