Abstract

A group of children seated at a table in the Nursery at the National Home for Jewish Children. Each child has a graham cracker and cup of milk. The child seated third from the left in the back row is Morris Susan. The children were in the care of the National Home for Jewish Children at Denver, which later became part of the National Jewish Hospital.

Abstract

Three women patients participate in a snowball fight at the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS). The women are playing in front of the Texas Pavilion for Women building. The JCRS was a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients that was founded in 1904 by a group of immigrant Jewish working men along with the support of several leading physicians and rabbis in Denver, Colorado. It was located on West Colfax Avenue just outside of Denver.

Abstract Russian immigrants, Leon and Ella Kaplan Sobol, came from Minnesota to Denver in the early 1900s. The couple had three sons: Chester, Harry, and David, all born in Denver. In 1908, Ella Sobol signed a lease with Harris Pellish to use his property at 2715 West Colfax for a theatre until 1910.
