Harry Battock, 1912-1955

Abstract

Harry Battock and his family came to Denver from Poland around 1908, and upon arrival Battock worked as a fruit peddler in Denver. The Battock family became an important part of the West Colfax Jewish community of Denver. His son Benjamin Battock graduated high school in 1923, and went on to become a doctor, specializing in anesthesiology. Benjamin Battock died of a heart attack in 1955. A Photocopy of a photograph of Benjamin Battock and Ladeen Fogel is also in the file.

Abstract Dr. Haskell M. Cohen (1875-1964) was considered a pioneer in Colorado medicine and surgery. After receiving his primary degree from an adjunct college of Columbia Universityin 1899, Cohen went to Vienna and Berlin for advanced medical study, and stayed there from 1904-1911 when he returned to Denver. Hillkowitz Family, 1947-2016

Abstract

Rabbi Hillkowitz emigrated to Cincinnati from Lithuania to be a rabbi and tutor, moving to Denver around 1892. His son, Dr. Philip Hilkowitz, was a noted Denver pathologist, active in various medical societies. He joined Dr. Spivak as a founder of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society and served as its president. His father, Rabbi Hillkowitz, suggested the Talmudic motto of the JCRS.
