Abstract

Family history of the Pomponio Family given in an interview with Dan Pomponio. Dan Pomponio was born to truck farmers Nicholas and Rose Pomponio. Dan came to Colorado when he was six months old and recalls driving the family's freshly harvested produce, consisting of lettuce, peppers, celery, carrots and other greens to the market on the Platte River near Cherry Creek.

Abstract Dave Duckworth begins by telling how he and Helen came to Mesa in 1943 so he could work as a pharmacist. He talks about living in the Evergreen district, owning a drugstore with his father, and how medicine has changed in 40 years. He describes what Mesa was like in the 1940's with wide streets, a thriving downtown district, and good schools. Abstract

David Carter graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1933, came to work for CF&I in 1934 and spent two years working at the Sunrise Mine in Wyoming. Originally he worked as a rodman for fifty-five cents an hour. Then he did geology work for about twenty-five dollars a week.After coming to Pueblo, Colorado, Carter became the chief engineer in 1945. He retired in 1970.

Abstract

David Ellingwood came to CF&I in 1950 after graduating from the University of New Hampshire. He was a geologist in the mining department. First his job was to expand the limestone reserve, later he examined iron in Arizona and in the 1960s he examined copper. In the 1970s he became the Chief Geologist, and his reports were very well indexed.

Abstract Mr. Melick was born March 30, 1910 in Williams, Arizona. He was educated at Williams High School, the University of Arizona, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Melick returned as a chest surgeon in 1981, and prior to that was a professor of surgery at the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona. He also worked as a surgeon in Phoenix and began his medical career as a General Practitioner in Williams. Interviewed by Al Richmond, April 19, 1984. ...
