Biography

Elsa Kaplan Tobin was born on April 21, 1913 in Rocky Ford, CO. The Kaplans were a member of the only Jewish family in the small town. She was the daughter of Anna and Nathan Kaplan, Polish immigrants who moved to Colorado around 1915. Her sister, Pearl Kaplan Herman (22 November 1914 - 30 August 2006) married Dave Herman. In 1937, she married pharmacist Lou Tobin. The couple were married by Rabbi Manuel Laderman. The couple had two children, Martin and Sherrie, on the West Side of Denver. Both children attended Colfax Elementary, Lake Junior High, and North High. She died on October 15, 1991 at the age of 78. She was buried beside her husband Lou in Golden Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, CO.

Abstract

Photograph shows Elsa Kaplan Tobin holding her son Martin. The two are sitting at the soda fountain counter in Tobin's Pharmacy. Written on front is " Oct. 20- 1941". Written on back is "Martin and Elsa". Text stamped on back reads "Oct 20 1941, Bri-Tone Prints Trade Mark Reg. Denver". Photograph is in black and white. Red corner-holders can be seen on the corners of the photograph itself.
