Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1972-1984
The Albuquerque Jewish community dates from 1863 when German Jew Aaron Zeckendorf opened a store in Old Town. "Congregation Albert 1897-1972" documents Albuquerque Jews' subsequent participation in the political and cultural life of the Albuquerque community. Newspaper materials focus on activities and rabbinic opinions in the mid-1980s.

Congregation Albert (Albuquerque, N.M.) Records
Congregation Albert was established in 1897 by Alfred Grunsfeld, Henry N. Jaffa and Berthold Apitz. The naming rights were auctioned off and the Grunsfeld family, for $250, chose to name the synagogue after Alfred's late father, Albert Grunsfeld. The first building was dedicated in 1900, the second building was dedicated in 1951 and the third in 1984. The collection contains histories of the congregation and dedication journals from 1951 and 1984.

The booklet is the product of the New Mexico Jewish Historical Society's Jewish Pioneer Oral History Video Archive Project, conducted in partnership with the Department of History and the Center for Regional Studies at the University of New Mexico. The booklet is composed of recollections of members of the Mandell, Weiller, Benjamin, and Dreyfuss families.

Painting appears to be done in watercolor and oil crayons. The painting was a gift for Leslie from the artist for her Bat Mitzvah. Veston created a small painting as a gift for every Bar or Bat Mitzvah for the members of Congregation B'nai Israel.
