Abstract Denver, Colo. native Gwen L. Bowen relates her life in dance, beginning with her early childhood education and dance classes studying under Claire Denne and Lillian Cushing. She participated in Denne's summer dance programs at Elitch Gardens in Denver. In 1946, when a high school junior, Bowen was a soloist in the Denver Post Opera. She injured her ankle but kept dancing through several performances. She had torn all of the tendons in her foot and was told she would never dance again....

Carolyn Durand (later Carolyn Durand Brooks, second from left), Nancy Hauser (front, center), and Henrietta Greenhood (professionally known as Eve Brooks, front row, far right) perform ''Dance of Work and Play,'' choreographed by Hanya Holm, at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont. Durand, Hauser, and Brooks were all members of the Hanya Holm Dance Company. Other dancers unidentified.
