Scope and Contents Box contains one acrylic painting by Maria Lowenstein, done while she was living in Denver. Painting is of six figures, all with head coverings, grouped together. Three figures on the top appear female while the two figures on the lower left appear male. On the center right is a figure whose face is covered by their hands. Artist signature "Maria" in bottom left corner. The work is done is a cubist style using mostly shades of blue with some red and cream colored accents and black outlines....

Contains information on the paintings and frame orders for several exhibits in 2013 and photographs of some of the paintings. There is also a CD with some images of paintings. Photographs were done by Bob (Robert) Zimmerman.

Abstract

Folder contains lists of painting titles for two separate exhibits featuring Maria Lowenstein and a photocopy of an exhibit publicity card for the April 1981 Retrospective exhibit. Also included are insurance values for Maria Lowenstein's art displayed at the Governors Reception, Denver Art Museum April 30, 1984.

Abstract Greta Hilb (1904-1998) was born in Stuttgart, Germany and became a local Denver Jewish female artist of note. She studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York and settled in Denver in 1934. In 1964, she also co-authored a cookbook titled For Goodness Sake with Denver author Leora Mattingly Weber, famous nationally for her Beany Malone juvenile series. Abstract

Charcoal drawing on paper of young woman sitting on single bed (Maria Loewenstein's daughter Karin Steinberg. Her shoulders are hunched and her lower arms rest on the top her thighs. She looks off behind the artist’s right side with a vacant stare. The bed has a pillow and blanket but the rest of the area is bare. The drawing was done on wall paper with charcoal from bombed buildings in Berlin.
