Exterior of the main building of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS). This postcard is from a set of photographs of the JCRS. The JCRS was a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients that was founded in 1904 by a group of immigrant Jewish workingmen along with the support of several leading physicians and rabbis in Denver, Colorado. It was located on West Colfax Avenue, just outside of Denver.

Abstract

A male patient sits in a tent playing a violin while male and female sanatorium patients look on. The hospital was founded in 1899. In 1907, the name of the hospital changed to the National Asthma Center. It later became the Children's Asthma Research Institute and Hospital, National Jewish Hospital/National Asthma Center(1978), and National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine(1985).
