Dr. Emanuel Friedman, a pediatrician in Denver, Colorado, seated at his office desk. He originally came to Colorado because of tuberculosis. After recovering his health, he opened his office on West Colfax Avenue in the immigrant community and was one of Denver's first pediatricians. He graduated from Denver's Gross Medical College in 1904 and also served on the medical staff at National Jewish Hospital and the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society.

Dr. M. Chernyk, Medical Director of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS), with two unidentified visitors. The JCRS was a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients that was founded in 1904 by a group of immigrant Jewish workingmen along with the support of several leading physicians and rabbis in Denver, Colorado. The sanatorium was located on West Colfax Avenue just outside of Denver.

Born in Russia, Bassow emigrated to New York in 1906, eventually moving to Wyoming where his family briefly were homesteaders and he taught in a one-room schoolhouse. Later he graduated from the University of Colorado Medical School.
