 Collection
Identifier: B099

Abstract

Russian immigrants, Leon and Ella Kaplan Sobol, came from Minnesota to Denver in the early 1900s. The couple had three sons: Chester, Harry, and David, all born in Denver. In 1908, Ella Sobol signed a lease with Harris Pellish to use his property at 2715 West Colfax for a theatre until 1910. While children, Chester and Harry played the organ in the movie theater to enhance the patrons experience. Harry Sobol married Sarah L. Gross and their children were Mary Ann Sobol (Rosen), Cecilia Sobol (Rubin), Maurice Barnard "Bill" Sobol and Howard Sobol. The collection consists of a scanned copy of the 1908 lease and nine scanned photographs. The VHS of Sobol family home films from 1925 to 1949 is in the RMJHS Oral Histories (B098.15.0019.00006.)
